Iceland: The Dream Made Real by Marie Cartier

I just came back from a bucket list trip- Iceland. I have wanted to go ever since I learned they had a Women’s Party- which were sometimes in power. The Women’s Party of Iceland ‘Power of the masses’: the day Iceland’s women went on strike and changed history | Iceland | The Guardian where women went on strike and changed the history of the country forever. Today Iceland is the most gender equity country in the world for women, the safest country in the world for women- and extremely beautiful. You can read more about it here: What Are the Icelandic Women Like? Feminism, Tradition and CrossFit (iamreykjavik.com) and here: 7 Laws That Show Why Iceland Ranks First for Gender Equality (globalcitizen.org)

Iceland is also a leader in green energy, and overall health of its country and of its citizens- the water is from glaciers and geo-thermal underwater pools—it is in a word not just stunningly beautiful but stunningly effective in conservation and health and available to all of its citizens. This month I am just posting some pictures from my “bucket list” trip to a land where women matter more than anywhere else in the world. It was amazing to just be there. I also think it’s important to do that “bucket list” trip if you can and see where it leads you. Mine will lead me back to Iceland soon, I hope.

  1. Wow, Just imagine a place that loves women – Wow. And those photos Marie – oh you show that it is possible on a concrete level to live differently…. these days I tire easily of “imagining”. Thank You!!!

  2. After re -reading the article you included I feel some dismay that this country struggles with the same issues as the rest of us…. but why am I surprised? One thought stands out and that one comes from the Guardian plug for readers – a paper I actually read because they DON’T hide behind neutrality which is a form of betrayal. Beware anyone without an opinion – they are in hiding – from themselves first and then others

  3. Your photos are gorgeous! I have wanted to go to Iceland since my mother made a free-hand drawing of the coastline, which I turned in as my work when I was in grade 6.
