This Saturday March for Love, March for Healing, March for Strength by Caryn MacGrandle

Marches and Rallies will be held all over the United States this Saturday January 20th to mark the upcoming 51st anniversary of Roe vs. Wade.  WomensMarch.Com

But what is happening in our world right now is Bigger than Roe.

It is not about Life, it is about Control.

I voted for Trump in 2016.  There.  I said it.  My entire family was Republican.  My husband at the time was Republican.  I spent many years on an Airforce base where I saw firsthand that things the government run are full of red tape and inefficiency.

But I have watched over the past eight years.  And where once my West Point ex-husband was willing to overlook Trump’s character flaws because of duh, the Economy, those flaws have multiplied like a virus in a petri dish.

And today I am horrified.

I am horrified that this misogynistic, egotistical, divisive man who believes he is above the law is still a candidate in the Presidential race.

I think back to other times in history where people have overlooked moral character due to fear, and I cannot believe that we as a human race have returned to this juncture.

It is not about the Economy, it is about Fear.

I attended the University of Texas in Austin which had a lively vibrant campus life full of rallies and debates, international students and different perspectives.

I did not partake.  I did not participate because I wanted to be a ‘good girl’ and not offend my conservative Republican family.  I grew up under the guise that to be a good girl was to be silent, to be meek and to get along.

How many of us did that?

I did not partake because I was scared.  My cells knew the fear of being persecuted for being different.  And bad things could happen like ex-Marines climbing to the top of the Tower and shooting people sniper style.

But I have grown so much over this past decade, and I now know that the world we leave for our children is so much more important than our individual fears.

It is about choosing Oblivion or Utopia.

We are at that juncture.

We are in transitory times, and the internet helped to make me who I am today with amazing friends, connections all over the world and a computer app about the divine feminine that attracts people each and every day.

But it has also driven us into our homes, secluded behind this false wall of group chats and social media likes and turned us even more into commodities and numbers while destroying what little sense of community the United States had.

We must put an end to that.  Come out of your comfort zone.  Put some layers on and get out and meet some people this Saturday.

Find a march by you at womensmarch.com.

If there is not one in your area, host one. That is what I am doing.  I decided about a week ago that this is too important to sit on the sidelines.

Right now, there are seven people signed up.

That is okay.  Even if it is just me with a sign, I will be holding that sign for every little girl who kept her mouth shut in order to be good, in order to be liked and in order to fit in.

No more.

I stand up for Her.  I stand up for you.  I stand up for Love and Healing and Strength.

Will you stand as well?

    1. Yes, Sara, I am a former Republican and a former Christian (although Jesus and I are still on good terms, and there are still things I do not care for about the Democratic party.) Would love to see us evolve beyond the two party system. Not sure what you ‘get’ now but that is okay.

  1. Dear Caryn, it takes great courage to go against all the “rules” you were taught by your family and culture. Bravo! It takes even more to tell the world. I am inspired by you.

  2. I love your bravery. You got a Sekhmet on your altar? :) I’m so weary of the passive and whispering women who feign love and compassion because they’re afraid to STAND UP and USE THEIR VOICES! I’ll always stand by you sister! I was a Catholic from the Bible Belt. When I left Louisiana, I left all that behind. It’s not easy to be on the outside of your family and old friends, even new friends, but we can’t live in fear. Today’s Republicans would have us living the Handmaid’s Tale quicker than our heads could spin and how many women would be enablers and how many women would fight? The apolitical and neutral are just as bad. Not willing to get their hands dirty while others fight for their rights. Don’t even know what’s going on out there and how bad the GOP really is, still living the idea they’re Reagan Republicans – not even aware of the false equivalency both sides are just as bad. And if you haven’t read the Handmaid’s Tale, it started with an immediate overthrow of the government, something most of us thought we’d never live to see – well, you don’t have to look any further than January 6 and the Orange Jesus. Oh, one more thing – I’m so filled with shame about what my old religion has become. Christianity was always built on a house of cards, denying truths, creating false narratives that served the patriarchy, but at least they were about love and caring. Not anymore!

  3. I’m so glad you have encouraged people to attend the women’s marches this coming weekend. I have attended a number of them and always come away feeling inspired and energized. They remind me of the wonderful song March of the Women, music by Dame Ethel Smythe and words by Cecily Hamilton, that was the anthem of the British suffragists and to me expresses the importance of women, and men, showing up to be together at these marches. “March, march, up with your song, cry with the wind for the dawn is breaking. March, march, swing you along, wide goes our banner and hope is waiting. Firm in reliance, laugh a defiance, laugh in hope, for sure is the end. March, march, many as one, shoulder to shoulder and friend to friend.”
